First MacGourmet Release Candiate Now Available

The first MacGourmet 2 candidate for release (v2.0.0 RC1) is now available:

Well, it's finally here, the first candidate for release. This release fixes a few remaining minor issues. If no show stoppers surface, this will pretty much be the final 2.0.0 version, which will have an official release after the first of the year.

MacGourmet 2 to require Mac OS X 10.4 or later

MacGourmet 2 is going to require 10.4 or later. I tried to make the new version backwards compatible with 10.3.9 but was unsuccessful. Some of the new features, it turns out, require 10.4. Pulling these new features out, for an operating system version that is over 3 years old now, when support for that version was going to be dropped as soon as 10.5 was released anyway, would be too costly to do.

Other World Computing does, however, offer 10.4 for only $89 so that is an option if running the new version of MacGourmet is critical for you and you need to upgrade.

The first release candidate can be downloaded here: MacGourmet 2 RC 1

While I applaud the new version, and completely agree on making it require 10.4, 10.3.9 isn't three years old.

10.4 shipped in April 2005, making 10.3.9 the current OS as recently as 20 months ago. That's a 16 month difference there.

Again, 10.4 is the current version of the OS so it's completely reasonable to base a software rev on the current technology, especially when that's about to be replaced come spring with 10.5.
