MacGourmet:To Go Sneak Peek

It's been a while since the App Store opened, so I thought I'd share a sneak peek at how MacGourmet:To Go is coming along. I've been working on this on and off for a while now, and I'll admit that development has been slower than I'd hoped.

One challenge is that I'm trying to make this as full-featured as possible, without getting too complex, because any iPhone app should be simple, and, if there is a desktop counterpart like MacGourmet, should be a subset of that.

What that means for MacGourmet:To Go is that I'm not doing JUST a recipe application, I'm essentially doing recipe, wine note, cooking note AND shopping list applications. That's quite a lot, and I'm sure there are/will be other applications that do each thing individually, so I think you can kind of get an idea of the amount of work involved.

I haven't even mentioned the fact that I have to develop my own way to get your data on the iPhone/iPod touch, because Apple currently doesn't provide this for us.

At any rate, there you go! Work is progressing, and I'm trying to get it done as soon as it is possible. Enjoy!

Very happy to hear this news. Maybe you can roll out the recipie part first? I don't know about others, but I'm not a big notes/wine user - I just want the food!

I'm with Scott - could there be a "lite" version that starts with having your recipes with you - then follow with the whole kit n' caboodle?

I can't wait! Location based shopping would be awesome! I am using INEEDSTUFF for the iphone and it has some really neat location based features and features to help you get your grocery shopping done as quickly as possible (saving time is always great)

I wish I knew about this version before buying splashshopper...

oh, and why not just release it even with the bugs? buggy software is better than no software.

Another happy MacGourmet user here who can't wait! In the meantime, I've found an easy workaround for grocery list and more for Mac users with either IMAP support or .mac. Just add a note to your (File / New Note) inbox and copy/paste the whole list of ingredients and preperation notes in it. Sync your Apple Mail and open the Mail app on the Iphone, and you can read your note in your Mail. Works great in the kitchen too, only my iPhone is kinda greasy now :-)

I can't wait! For me, the most important part will be the shopping list functionality.

Are you going to have it synch like OmniFocus does, using mobile me and webdav? Or are you looking at another route?

Yes- recipes, but please, also the shopping list? For a light version that would be great!

How about releasing just the grocery list function for free (or $.99) and then let us pay for all the other MG goodness and desktop connectivity. Not the way Omni did it with OmniFocus, but they do have a good solution to the sync issue.

Is there any progress on the iPhone version of Macgourmet? I was just thinking yesterday how handy it would have been, as I went to the store having forgotten to bring my shopping list! If I had MacGourmet ToGo on my iPhone, I would never have forgotten to buy some key things!

Got my wife an Iphone last night, I already have one, we were looking for a shopping list and alas I said "surely macgourmet has an iphone app by now, we finally have an excuse to buy the desktop software" We were both very disappointed. Please push this out and you will have my money.

I've had an iPhone from day 1 and now iPhone 3G. Currently I Google cooking recipes & quick cooking info all the time. My computer is not as handy as pulling my iPhone out of my pocket while I'm cooking. PLEASE roll out an MacGourmet iPhone App!!!! I'll pay $$$!!!

Bendito eres! I would love to see a lite version that just stores the recipes on the iPhone for now. I would love love love love it. Did I mention that I'd love it? With the lite version all of us fans could be using it--spreading the word, yo--while the full version is being developed.

Michael.

Don't try to recreate MG in a smaller device. Focus on the shopping list feature and make that the focus of your first release.
