Looking for MacGourmet Version 2.2 Testers

Well it's that time again, and I'm working on finalizing another major update, version 2.2. That means it's time to put out a request for beta testers to give some of the new features, which include the widescreen option and a new plug-in installer mechanism, a whirl.

If interested in being on the list when I open the beta, just click on this link to open a new email message and send it in.

Nutrition will need to be tested too, but that will be a separate beta. More on testing that feature later.

Thanks!

MacGourmet 2.1.5 Now Available

MacGourmet 2.1.5, another maintenance release, is now available.

This release corrects a problem people upgrading from MacGourmet version 1 will see if they quit instead of creating a new version 2 database. Existing users won't see this problem, but I still recommend downloading the update.

For a full list of changes, please see the release notes.

As always, MacGourmet 2.1.5 can be downloaded from the MacGourmet download page.

New Recipe Web Site Importer: MyRecipes.com

A new "one-step" importer for adding recipes from MyRecipes.com (which features recipes from Cooking Light, Southern Living, Sunset, Coastal Living, Cottage Living and Health magazines) is now available, joining importers for CookingLight.com, Epicurious.com, AllRecipes.com, Williams-Sonoma.com, Yahoo! Food, FoodNetwork.com (all of which are already built into MacGourmet) and CooksIllustrated.com.

To add this new importer, just visit the Web Clippings page and download the installer.

What's a recipe site importer you ask? Well it's a simple, quick and easy way to import recipes from some of your favorite web sites in just one step. Just go to a page on one of the supported sites that has a recipe on it, and either choose Services > MacGourmet > Import Recipe from Web Page from the application menu, or drag and drop the web address from your browser address field to your "My Recipes" list. That's it!

MacGourmet 2.1.4 Released; Widescreen Mode Teaser

MacGourmet 2.1.4, another maintenance release, is now available. While it includes some new ways to guard your data, the biggest change is a fix for a trickey-for-me-to-find bug where categories selected while editing multiple recipes, and while importing clippings were not always getting applied to the recipe or recipe selections.

For a full list of changes, please see the release notes.

As always, MacGourmet 2.1.4 can be downloaded from the MacGourmet download page.

For those people who picked up an iPhone this weekend, this version of MacGourmet, while only a minor fix update, DOES include some support for viewing recipes, notes and, yes, shopping lists published to your .Mac account on the iPhone. I've made a new iPhone-specific theme for publishing, Camden iPhone and it's available on the Publishing page. To install it, just download the theme file, and double-click it [NOTE: Due to a small bug in 2.1.4, the new type for the theme wasn't added correctly. Instead of double-clicking the theme file, copy it to the Library > Application Support > MacGourmet > Templates > Publishing folder in your Home folder to install it instead]. Then, make a new web site, select "Camden iPhone" as your theme and publish to your .Mac account. If you want to check out sample recipes on your iPhone first, just point your iPhone browser to iPhone Sample Recipes for some samples.

Finally, another teaser of a new feature, the widescreen mode. This will be an optional display mode, in addition to the current, standard mode available now. This new feature also includes a new, condensed summary list view that includes photo thumbnails of your recipes for quick browsing. This new mode will be part of version 2.2, which I'm currently in the process of wrapping up development on now.
