Happy Holidays from MacGourmet.com!

We'd just like to wish everyone a merry Christmas, a happy Hanukkah, and a happy new year! Happy Holidays!

And as a little holiday bonus, the Boston Globe ran a special section featuring holiday recipes from some of New England's top restaurants, and I've compiled them into a MacGourmet recipe pack for everyone here.

First MacGourmet Release Candiate Now Available

The first MacGourmet 2 candidate for release (v2.0.0 RC1) is now available:

Well, it's finally here, the first candidate for release. This release fixes a few remaining minor issues. If no show stoppers surface, this will pretty much be the final 2.0.0 version, which will have an official release after the first of the year.

MacGourmet 2 to require Mac OS X 10.4 or later

MacGourmet 2 is going to require 10.4 or later. I tried to make the new version backwards compatible with 10.3.9 but was unsuccessful. Some of the new features, it turns out, require 10.4. Pulling these new features out, for an operating system version that is over 3 years old now, when support for that version was going to be dropped as soon as 10.5 was released anyway, would be too costly to do.

Other World Computing does, however, offer 10.4 for only $89 so that is an option if running the new version of MacGourmet is critical for you and you need to upgrade.

The first release candidate can be downloaded here: MacGourmet 2 RC 1

For a full list of changes since the last release, please see the MacGourmet Release Notes page.

Sixth MacGourmet 2 Public Beta Now Available

The sixth public beta of MacGourmet 2 (v2.0.0 beta 13) is now available.

This release fixes a bunch of minor issues. This will hopefully be the last beta before the release candidate, as bug reports have turned to a trickle and there don't seem to be any, remaining show stoppers.

MacGourmet 2 to require Mac OS X 10.4 or later

I can officially say now that MacGourmet 2 is going to require 10.4 or later.

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE DOWNLOADING THE BETA
The first time MacGourmet 2 is first started, it will create a new version of your existing database, so it doesn't modify your existing MacGourmet version 1 database if you have one.

Still, as when using any beta software, it's always a good idea to back up your existing information (usually the entire MacGourmet folder in the Library/Application Support folder in your home folder). If you find any problems, please choose Help > "Send Feedback" from within the application to send in a report so that they can be fixed.

Also note that while this build is a universal binary, it is a debug version, so it might be slower than the final version. The final release will, of course, be an optimized universal build.

The sixth beta can be downloaded here: MacGourmet 2 Public Beta

Don't forget, time is running out! If you order a copy of version 1 and use the coupon code BETATHANKS (** This offer has expired **) when you order you can save $5 and your purchase will get you version 2 when it's completed.

For a full list of changes since the last release, please see the MacGourmet Release Notes page.

Please see this previous post for more information on MacGourmet 2, including pricing, etc.

Fifth MacGourmet 2 Public Beta Now Available

The fifth public beta of MacGourmet 2 (v2.0.0 beta 12) is now available.

In addition to a bunch of fixes, this beta changes the way user lists are managed, now making them work more like user folders in Mail, or folders in the finder. It also adds the ability to delete more than one library browser item at a time.

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST BEFORE DOWNLOADING THE BETA
