This Blog has Moved... Again...
With the launch of MacGourmet 3 and a new web site, the MacGourmet News blog has moved to
MacGourmet News on the new
MacGourmet.com.
The content here will remain online so that the recipes and content posted in the past remain accessible. To get the latest news though, you'll want to update your readers to the new location.
6th Anniversary Sale! Save $10!
I can't believe it's been 6 years since I first released MacGourmet version 1!
To help celebrate I'm putting the app on sale for a couple of days. Purchase MacGourmet today or tomorrow (8/17 & 8/18) from within the app or at the
online store using the code
MG6YEARS and save $10! All purchases will also receive a free upgrade to version 3!
After 6 years, MacGourmet is still going strong, and with a major update and new iPhone and iPad apps (and at least a surprise or two) on the horizon, things are only going to get better! My thanks to everyone who's helped support MacGourmet over all these years by buying what I hope is the best recipe app there is!
Beta is Underway, More Invites Coming Soon...
As some have already found out, the beta test of version 3 got underway this week.
If you asked to test, and haven't heard anything yet, I'll try and add more testers during this upcoming week. I usually try and start off with a smaller subset group at first, just so that everyone doesn't feel the "pain" of a brand new version, and so that I don't have a myriad of people reporting the same, sometimes obvious, errors of a beta 1 release.
Your patience, and help, is appreciated!
MacGourmet Deluxe is the Top Ten Reviews Top Rated Recipe App!
"MacGourmet Deluxe is among the most well-known kitchen software programs on the market. Many other programs even let users import recipes from MacGourmet, presumably to allow people with the program share recipes with less fortunate friends who have lower-quality programs. From its simple user interface and drag and drop capability to its smart lists and highly advanced search options, MacGourmet offers everything a cook could want and more in one program. MacGourmet’s advanced features, combined with its ease of use, made it our top choice among the Mac recipe software we reviewed."
And it's only going to get better... You can read

Looking for Some Brave Souls for MacGourmet 3 Beta Testing...
Greetings! Well it's that time again, time to get ready for the next version of MacGourmet, version 3! I'm looking for some current version 2 users to give the new version a spin. If you're interested, please send the following information to macgourmet [at] advenio.com with a subject of "MacGourmet 3 Beta":
- The version of Mac OS X you're using
- The number of recipes that are in your My Recipes list
- A feature you are really hoping to find in the new version
Please note that version 3 is going to require Mac OS X 10.5 or later. More details on pricing, upgrades, etc. are coming soon...
Thanks!
Please pardon the dust...
Please forgive the odd format of the blog at the moment. A new site is currently under development, but Blogger recently forced all of us that were using their service onto their servers (instead of letting us maintain our own files). On top of that, they now force us to include the "nav bar" at the top of the page as well, which sort of throws off the formatting of the page. So, until the new site is ready to be rolled out, there will be a little "dust" around here that should be cleaned up soon.
Food & Wine, Cook's Illustrated Web Site Importers Updated
Just updated the web site importers for
Food & Wine and
Cook's Illustrated. The Food & Wine importer was completely rewritten for their latest changes, and the Cook's Illustrated importer fixes image import. You can download both from the
Web Site Importer page on MacGourmet.com.
Safari Steals Another Clipping Key Command
It looks like the new version of Safari, 5.0 has "stolen" a key command sequence from MacGourmet. With the way Services work, if an application uses the same key sequence as a Service, it gets precedence over the one used by the service.
The sequence command-shift-R that was used to import from web sites, is now being used by Safari 5 for the new "Reader" feature. I'm not sure what the sequence MacGourmet uses now will get changed to, but it will have to be changed for a future update to avoid the new conflict. It'd be nice if applications could allow you to configure these things, but last I knew, the only way you could define a Service and its shortcut was to define it when developing a product, so you can't reconfigure Services command keys when the application is being used later.
There is a way around the problem: you can go into the Keyboard section of System Preferences and define your own Safari Application Shortcut (or a more general one) that defines and calls the Services command that it did previously. My thanks to Betsy Ercolini for the tip.
